Loretta and Sissy

Loretta Lynn with Sissy Spacek in 2010

Recently discovered documents would suggest that she did.  My first reaction to discovering this story was, "So what?!"  Seriously...what woman after the age of 29 hasn't either hedged or fibbed when it comes to disclosing her age?

The story goes that a reporter for the Associated Press (AP) discovered documentation that conflicted with information, on Loretta Lynn's birthdate, that the news agency had in its file of celebrity birthdays.  He changed the date in the file and a subsequent report that was issued, using the updated information (that makes Loretta 80 instead of her claim of 77,) drew reaction from The Country Music Hall of Fame...

Lee Brice

"Hard to love, hard to love, I don't make it easy.  I couldn't do it if I stood where you stood... Hard to love, hard to love, you say that you need me...I don't deserve it but I love that you love me girl"

Just a sample of the lyrics in Lee Brice's latest "Hard To Love".  Though he didn't write the song, it was penned by, Ben Glover, Billy Montana and John Ozier, Lee claims it's autobiographical.  Check out the video below ...

Nick Cannon The Band Perry

It's not every day that you will find a rap artist incorporating country music into their own.  Not that rap and country collaborations are completely new (Jason Aldean/Ludacris for one example) but actually sampling country music for a rap record is pretty unique.

That is exactly what rapper/America's Got Talent host/Mr. Mariah Carey Nick Cannon has done and his choice of sample is a rather healthy chunk of The Band Perry's "If I Die Young"...

Miranda at the 2012 Kentucky Derby

Miranda Lambert (pictured above in her 2012 Kentucky Derby 'hat') and Blake Shelton celebrated their first year of wedded bliss this past week and, if anything's different at all, they appear to be even more crazy in love than this time last year.

The secret to why these two get along so well may have something to do with how much they have in common...or maybe it's just that outspoken Blake knows when to edit himself at home...

Dolly and Donna

Yesterday, Heaven got another strong addition to the choir with the sad passing of disco-Queen Donna Summer.  Donna had been fighting both lung and breast cancer. She was just 63.

We mentioned how she (and her husband) impacted, and had close ties with, the country music community in yesterday's blog.

Donna Summer

Sad news today (May 17) with the passing of Donna Summer, at age 63, after fighting a losing battle with cancer.

When the "Queen of Disco" moves on to the next realm, you wouldn't think that those left behind would be contemplating her works in the country music genre, but "what you would think" isn't always what is so...

Carrie & Mike

Carrie Underwood is in Toronto today (Thursday, May 17) answering InMusic.ca's questions (okay, she might be answering some other people's questions too but ours matter most to us ;)  Before she headed north this week, to see us, Carrie & her (now on 'holiday') hockey star husband, Mike Fisher, hosted a visit with the grand dame of 'best life' who popped over to Nashville on Monday for a wee chat.

Related photo gallery: Country Idols!

That chat will be airing for all to see on Sunday (May 20).  Don't know which show yet?  Check out the photo Carrie posted on Monday on her Twitter page below...

Alan Doyle

Alan Doyle has lead the band Great Big Sea to great heights over the past couple of decades but, as the band approaches it's 20th anniversary (with plans to celebrate with an Anniversary tour and album,) the lead singer has stumbled upon a diversion.

With his distinctive (some call it 'honest') voice he is, and his desire to, not unlike Willie Nelson, hit the road and make music with his friends, Alan Doyle inadvertently created a solo album that begs our attention.  It's good.  It's really, really, good and today is the day he shares it with us all.

I talked with Alan, about the album titled, "Boy on Bridge," last week.  Below, you will find that conversation, the story behind "Boy on Bridge" (and, in true East Coast fashion, there 'is' a good story!) along with some snaps of the journey that brought this work of art into being.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did...
